“Wine About It features a collection of work built by Codie Anne over two years. This is a result of her dissertation which researched the differences and controversies between arts and crafts through crochet and other fiber arts. With these artworks Codie received the SSA New Graduate Award and the Millers Art Prize.
Crochet is Codie’s technique of choice. As it cannot be practiced by a machine, it acts for her as a form of resistance against the fast fashion, AI, and high art world which looks to commodify, automate, and take away the human touch.
Codie was once told by a lecturer “Art is for display, not use. My grandmothers doilies are crafted beautifully but in no way can they be called art when I put my dinner plate on them.” This body of work looks to disprove that.”
